In an age where the day-to-day hustle of life keeps us from enjoying "the little things," it becomes more important for us to better the quality of our life by taking time for ourselves. To care for the beauty which we have been blessed with has been a task taken for granted all too often. In sensing this need, Carla Gentry chose to share her talents as a hair designer and make our world a more beautiful place.
Carla first started in the business in 1990 in Washington D.C. and later in New York, where her contacts in the music industry opened her up to the freelance world of photo shoots and music videos. Inspired by Iman's flawlessly classic look and Madonna's ability to constantly transform herself to dictate trends, Carla's self-described signature aesthetic is shiny, healthy hair with a lot of movement, although her favorite style is the bob. Although Carla has worked in media ranging from music videos to editorials and album packaging to commercials, her favorite bookings are personal appearances, where she has direct interaction with her clients and the final results of her work are tangible.
As co-owner of Styles New York Salon, Carla now focuses her energy on maintaining her clientelle and freelancing in the entertainment industry. Carla is a stylist that prides herself in excellence and gives nothing less than 200%. In a world where true talent is often taken for granted and unused, it is refreshing to see a stylist like Carla taking the time to bring out the best in the people that she touches and the styles she creates.
Jada Pinkett Smith, Mary J. Blige, Brandy, Ashanti, Faith Evans, Lela Rochon, Mya and Star Jones are among the celebrities with whom Carla has worked. She has also worked on numerous music videos with artists including Luther Vandross and Blu Cantrell, as well as on commercial ad campaigns for the Gap. In addition, CarlaÕs work has been featured in editorials such as Interview, Stuff and Vibe and runway shows for designer Carmen Marc Valvo.
